Top 10 places to watch the SUNSET in Halifax

Who doesn’t love a good sunset?

Here is a list of the TOP 10 places in the Halifax area to watch the sun go down – ENJOY!

1 – Dartmouth Waterfront, Dartmouth

Hop on the Dartmouth ferry and enjoy a stunning view as you ride across the harbour on the oldest continuously-running salt-water passenger ferry service in North America (say that 10 times fast…).

When you’re on the Dartmouth side, you can sit close to the harbour looking out towards the Halifax waterfront and watch the sun come down over the city.

EAT YOUR WAY THROUGH HALIFAX: 5 Award-Winning Restaurants You HAVE To Visit

DISCLAIMER: If you’re not hungry now, you certainly will be by the end of this post.

Halifax has been blessed with a constantly expanding roster of exceptional places to eat. These top-tier establishments focus on sourcing local ingredients, providing exceptional service and creating an atmosphere that makes guests want to linger at their tables for hours. We could be here all day if I shared all of the places that fall under the category of ‘must eat’! Instead, I’ll share these five award-winners to help get you started on your foodie tour of Halifax.

  1. EDNA2053 Gottingen Street, Halifax
An acronym for Eat Drink Nourish Always, EDNA has been in the hearts (and bellies) of Haligonians ever since it opened. Locals aren’t the only people raving – EDNA was listed as one of the Top Restaurants in Canada in 2015. Everything about EDNA is great, but if you really want the full experience, head over for a weekend brunch. Be prepared to get there early, or to experience a bit of a wait – the doors open at 10 am, and you can bet that there will be a line a few people deep by at least 9:50am. Don’t worry thought, but it’s worth the wait – it was voted Best Brunch in the city.
  2. Highwayman1673 Barrington Street, Halifax
A relatively new addition on the Halifax food scene, Highwayman serves up “Spanish-inspired dishes and the highest quality spirits, wine and beer,” so it’s not surprising that it has quickly become a favourite with locals and visitors alike. It’s also no surprise that it made the TOP TEN of enRoute’s list of Canada’s Best New Restaurants of 2016.
  3. Ristorante a Mano1477 Lower Water Street, Halifax
If I’m in the mood for Italian food – which to be honest, is pretty much always – there’s a good chance I’ll be heading to Ristorante a Mano. A Mano is known for being “a truly authentic Italian trattoria” on the Halifax waterfront, and both the food and the atmosphere do not disappoint. Routinely featured in the Coast’s Best of Halifax Readers’ Choice Awards, Ristorante a Mano took gold in 2016 for Best Italian Restaurant and Best Pasta.
  4. Chives Canadian Bistro1537 Barrington Street, Halifax
Recently renovated, Chives has been a staple on the Halifax dining scene, operating on Barrington Street in Downtown Halifax for the past 16 years, they have unsurprisingly made the cut as one of Canada’s best restaurants for two consecutive years. The bistro creates seasonal menus that highlight locally-sourced Nova Scotian ingredients – a commitment that helped them win the title of Best Use of Local Ingredients from The Coast in 2016.
  5. Morris East 5212 Morris Street + 620 Nine Mile Drive, Halifax
With pizzas baked in a traditional wood-fired oven and that Nova Scotian emphasis on local ingredients, Morris East does a brilliant job of blending tried-and-true classics with innovative twists. Plus, when you eat at Morris East you know you’re in good hands; in 2015, chef Tim Andersen came third in the International Pizza Challenge for Non-Traditional Pizza.
