Want to bring in 2017 in a big way? Halifax is definitely the place to be. From live comedy shows and music performances, to fireworks shows and hockey games. So whether you’re celebrating leaving the past year behind or welcoming the new year to come, there are plenty of events and activities to do in Halifax to help you kick start 2017!

Celebrate Canada 150 in Grand Parade!

  1. A new year means it’s time to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday! So this NYE head down to Grand Parade for an evening full of fun festivities, free flags and pins. Plus the first 2,000 people on site of the celebration will receive a Canada 150 gift.

There will also be live music, with a performance by Juno Award winner, The Strumbellas, as well as the musical talents of Ria Mae.

The celebration will finish with one of the largest firework displays in Atlantic Canada at midnight. It’ll be an event you don’t want to miss!

  1. Laugh your way into 2017 with a New Year’s Eve Special at Yuk Yuk’s!

Looking to start the year off with a smile? Join co-features Garrett Clark and Kyle Hickey at Yuk Yuk’s for a dynamic and unpredictable show and an evening full of laughs!

Time: Dining starts at 7:30 pm, show starts at 10 pm

  1. Dance your way into 2017 with Asia & NuGruv

Asia & NuGruv are one of Atlantic Canada’s finest party bands. Whether you’re into R&B, soul, Motown or funky blues, it’ll be a New Year’s Eve event that you won’t forget! So grab your party shoes and join Asia & NuGruv at Casino Nova Scotia for an energetic evening!

  1. Give back with Craig Mac’s New Year’s Eve: Chapter 2017

Over the years Craig Mac’s New Year’s Eve parties have become an annual tradition for many. And after a two-year hiatus he is back with an event that will be held at the Halifax Central Library!

Over the last decade, Craig Mac has raised more than $100,000 through New Year’s Eve parties and Halifax events to send terminally ill children and their families on vacation. This year proceeds will be donated to the Craig Mac Comfort Initiative; a fund providing comfort to neuroscience patients being treated at the QEII.

  1. Have a worry free NYE thank to the Kid’s Slumber Party

Forget about getting a babysitter this New Year’s Eve and have a worry free evening out thanks to Party Patrol Event Company’s Kid’s Slumber Party.

The over night slumber party welcomes girls & boys aged 6 to 12 years and will be held at Harold T. Barrett Fun Camp in Beaver Bank. Harold T. Barrett is a Scout Camp and is equipped with more than 22 bunk beds, giving you the opportunity to enjoy your evening to the fullest!

Time: Drop off on December 31st between 4-6 pm with pick-up before 11 am on January 1st

  1. Ring in the new year at Banook Canoe Club

Aside from being a great party, New Year’s Eve at Banook Canoe Club is for an awesome cause too. The event is a fundraiser, with all proceeds going toward the purchase of a new war canoe for the club and supporting our local athletes!

  1. Start the new year off with dinner & dancing at Hatfield Farms!

  1. Skate your way into 2017 at the Emera Oval

New Year’s Eve at the Emera Oval will be double the fun with two firework shows (7 pm and midnight), two open skates (6-8 pm & 9 pm-midnight) and a performance from DJ Chris Swift.

Did we mention it was FREE?!

Time: First firework show is at 7 pm and first skate starts at 6 pm!

  1. Shake off 2016 with a live performance (or two) by Dallas Smith
